Al Quaraouiyine University: The World’s Oldest University

Due to the massive wildfires in Los Angeles, California, dozens of schools and academic centers have burned down, suffering significant damage.

According to U.S. sources, 12 educational buildings and campuses in Los Angeles have been destroyed or reduced to rubble by the spreading flames, halting education in the city and state. Over half a million students have been deprived of schooling.

Institutions like Brandman University, California State University, and the California Institute of Technology notified students that normal operations are suspended and campus gates are closed. They also announced that classes will not resume in the coming days. Additionally, these universities and colleges in California and Los Angeles have paused their hybrid learning programs, which allowed students to attend classes online in recent years.

Los Angeles authorities reported that thousands of public and civilian buildings have already been damaged by the fire, which originated in Kern County and spread to the San Fernando Valley and parts of Ventura County. As a result, educational centers have collapsed.

Experts warn that closing schools and universities due to the fire’s intensity and the city’s suffocating smoke and ash poses significant risks to students’ physical and mental health. This will likely lead to academic setbacks and deprive students of sports and cultural activities.

The fire has spread to western and eastern parts of Los Angeles, claiming 11 lives so far and destroying thousands of structures. The blaze, which began on Tuesday evening, continues to rage, with firefighting teams working tirelessly to contain and extinguish it.
